Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) Kuwait

The Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) and the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) on Saturday 14th June 2025 at 11:00 signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to tackle global sustainability challenges through collaborative research, academic engagement, and capacity-building initiatives in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The signing ceremony took place at the prestigious Royal Society of Medicine in London, United Kingdom, in the presence of senior representatives from both institutions, including Professor Dr. Bassam Alameddine, President of GUST, and Professor Dr. Allam Ahmed, Presidents of WASD and Professor Dr. Farida Fortune, Director of Centre for Oral Immunobiology and Regenerative Medicine, Institute Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London and Director Behçet’s Centre Excellence, UK.

Under the agreement, GUST and WASD will: 

  • Develop joint research projects targeting critical global issues such as climate change, economic development, and social equity;
  • Organize high-level conferences and capacity-building workshops across Kuwait and international venues, including London;
  • Publish collaborative research in leading Q1/Q2-ranked academic journals, including special issues co-edited by GUST faculty;
  • Foster policy dialogue and advocacy to promote evidence-based sustainable practices across local, national, and global levels.

This agreement paves the way for a series of impactful initiatives, beginning with the jointly organisation of WASD 23rd  Sustainability International Conference, to be held for the first time in Kuwait, in the period November 11–13, 2025. This great event will bring global experts together to address pressing sustainability challenges and shape innovative solutions.
