Overview

How to accelerate the pace of the Agenda 2030 implementation at half-way to its finishing line

22nd Sustainability International Conference
organized by the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) and global partners

22-25 July 2024
United Nations, Palais des Nations
Geneva, Switzerland

The conference aims to address the key question (practical and theoretical) of how to accelerate the pace of the United Nations' Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation at half-way to its finishing line and the vital role of educational institutions in driving forward the implementation of the  Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs.

Following WASD successful conference co-organized with the Joint Inspection Unit of the United Nations system (JIU) in the Palais des Nations – Geneva in 2018 as an expression of participatory, open and multi-stakeholder approach that underlies Agenda 2030, we invite all stakeholders including universities to join us in this global conference to explore innovative strategies, collaborative initiatives, and transformative approaches that empower educational leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to accelerate progress towards a sustainable future.

The conference will focus, but not limited on these key areas:

  1. Status of implementation of national commitments (countries case studies).
  2. Increasing the role of universities in accelerating the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs.
  3. Improving public health and well-being.
  4. Using Artificial Intelligence to accelerate development of poor countries not to accentuate polarization.
  5. Achieving SDG: a perspective from donor countries.
  6. Encouraging innovation and better use of intellectual resources in the Global South.
  7. Impact of Covid-19 and wars and conflicts across the world.

During the conference, participants will learn about WASD Sustainable Development Goals Universities Initiative (SDGsUNi) interactive and smart digital platforms and will be given the opportunity to join its various platforms.

Engage in insightful discussions, gain actionable insights, and be part of a global community committed to advancing sustainable development through the power of education. Let's unite for a brighter, more inclusive, and environmentally conscious tomorrow. Together, we can shape a world where education becomes a catalyst for positive change and a driving force behind the achievement of SDGs."

Conference publications (proceedings and journals) are listed and indexed in various international Indexing and Ranking platforms such as Scopus; Thomson Reuters Emerging Sources Citation Index; Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI); Crossref; ABI/Inform (ProQuest); Cabell’s Directory of Publishing Opportunities; British Library; and others.

Deadline for Abstract Submission: 15th May 2024, please submit your abstract/paper (s) directly to the Conference Coordinator: janet.snow@wasd.org.uk.

Similar to all previous Annual Conferences organized by WASD, this conference will bring together academics, universities and research institutions from across the world to collaborate and reconnect with the discourse of SD.

Diaspora Contribution

Women across the world have an untapped potential as a primary mover of greater development within their countries and regions. Their role is very crucial for increased development, but challenges remain. And so, significant reforms in economic, social, and political institutions must be made to create an enabling environment for women participation and empowerment. However, it appears that investments in human development are not readily translated to better economic and political outcomes for women. Unfortunately, women’s potential and crucial role in development across the world is still impeded by these economic and social factors. Women’s participation is also very important in advancing peace, unity and combating terrorism, which is a most serious threat to SD across all regions of the world. We encourage women and girls from across the world to participate in the conference. We encourage women and girls to participate in the conference and accelerate gender equality and equity.

Children and Youth Engagement

WASD is very keen to encourage the engagement of graduates and youth from across the world in the conference. We are keen to make the voice of all our youth heard and consequently enabling the decision makers to consider those views and ideas in their big decisions. The entire concept of SD is about the future and the future is all about the children and youth! Youth population is growing rapidly in all regions of the world and we are very keen to understand the children and youth perspectives and expectations for their future to help them be ready to grasp the various opportunities generated in the digital economy. We strongly believe our children and youth should be the cornerstone of any strategy by all governments and policy makers. We must listen to our children and youth and more importantly how we can help our youth with their future employment plans and aspirations. Youth from all-over the world are encouraged to participate in the conference and present their research, perspectives and initiatives.

WASD is a global forum that brings together experts from across the world to discuss issues relating to sustainable development, science and technology management.
