Dr. Khurshed Alam holds a Ph. D. degree in Sociology from the University of Pune, India. He is currently acting as the Chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Social Research Trust based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research areas of interest are on poverty reduction, community development, social change, people’s participation in development, gender-inclusive development, climate change and disaster, institutional development, decentralization and local governance issues. He has 27 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 3 peer-reviewed research reports and 7 books as publication to his credit. He worked with CIDA, DANIDA, USAID, World Bank, ADB, JICA, AusAid, NORAD, CARE, Concern and BIDS, etc. in Bangladesh and abroad. He was former faculty of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. He edited a journal titled “Bangladesh Sociological Studies” published by Bangladesh Institute of Social Research. He also acts as Ph.D. thesis examiner of Karachi University and Sindh University, Pakistan and IIT Guahati, India.
